LODGE OF FOUR BEARS
52" x 28.5"

Four Bears, also called Mato-Tope, got his name as it was said he fought with the fierceness of four bears. He was the great chief of the Mandan’s in the 1830’s. I portrayed him in his earthen lodge wearing his exploit robe which chronicles his many historic deeds. In his hair he also wears many feathers, each with a particular meaning in regards to his acts of valor.
