Years ago when the Traders came to Taos, they found that of their
trade cloths, the white Sears & Robuck sheets were most valued by the
Indians. Highly coveted for their fine weave and pure white color, they
were generally reserved for the tribe members of high rank. Although the
young girls may have been excluded from this group, the temptation to wear
one must have been very great. It is easy to imagine what it might have
looked like to watch one of these young girls trying on their Chief's trade
sheet for the first time.
